Universal Genève and Zenith, two of the best Swiss Maisons in the watch history, shared their destiny since ‘Compur’ model was launched in 1930s. In 1936 the ‘Compax’ by Universal Genève was introduced and it was the first chronograph with the hour counter as well as a minute one.
The Genève located company supplied Zenith with chronograph movements and case designs. In Le Locle, Zenith updated the calibers with new bridges and finishes, still the link with the Universal Compax movements can be noticed. Close co-operation with these two Swiss Companies lasted until Zenith designed its own El Primero, in 1969.

The present Zenith Compax features a gold and steel case with bi-faceted spider lugs. The case was supplied by Universal Genève and this can be also seen outside the caseback, showing the UG serial, while the inner caseback is Zenith stamped. The Zenith 136 caliber is based on the high-quality Universal Genève 281 movement and shows updated parts such as bridges and levers.
The Universal Genève Compax dial was provided to Zenith and branded with the Le Locle’s Company Logo. The three registers dial features an outer ‘Base 1000’ tachymeter scale and internally the hour dot indexes. The XII index at 12 o’clock adds a classic element to the timepiece. The main hands are made in gold while the subregister’s and chronograph’s one in blue steel, reflecting the light.
The present watch is offered in great condition. The gold and steel case shows minor scratches. The dial has aged a warm colour, and the subregisters shows circular scuffs. Main hands, chronograph hand and subregister hands are preserved in very good condition.
