1960s Universal Genève Polerouter with Tropical Dial

By the hands of Gerald Genta, for the Scandinavian Airlines pilots and housing the 215 Microrotor caliber: the Universal Genève Polerouter. Plus a beautiful tropical dial.

1950s were years of change, expansion and exciting development for Universal Genève. In 1954 a new advanced production plant was built in Carouge (Canton de Genève, Switzerland). It’s been strategical for the Maison, expecially for the Polerouter, manifactured the years to come. Originally named 'Polarouter' and produced to celebrate the first flight from Europe to America over the Northpole, the Universal Genève Polerouter was equipped by Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) pilots.

Born by the hands of a young and emerging Gerald Genta, the design of this watch is now a cult amongst collectors. While the 215 Microrotor’s reduced thickness allows the watch to disappear on the wrist, the helix lugs make a pleasant effect of soft shapes and lights. The wisely aesthetic gives the watch an elegant personality.

In 1955, Universal patented the 215 Microrotor caliber. This caliber included the rotor into the plate, an efficient engineering solution with an elegant design. Housed in the Polerouter, this mechanical caliber is part of the watchmaking history of the 1950s.

Last but not least, the dial. As a response of light over time, the dial assumed shades of tobacco, coffee and camel. Uniformly aged, the colors are bright and the details, including written, are clearly readable.
